On May 5, 2006, a group of specialists of the closed joint-stock company "MK-Periodika" (Russian Federation) under the direction of director-general V.N.Kalinin visited the National Library of Belarus.
This company is one of the biggest suppliers of foreign periodicals on the post-soviet space and cooperates with the biggest libraries of the Republic of Belarus. V.N.Kalinin gifted to the Library a set of literature (scientific monographs, reference documents, analytical reports), devoted to problems of the fight against terrorism, and expressed the hope that cooperation between the closed joint-stock company "MK-Periodika" and the Library will continue.
For the visitors was organized a survey excursion in the new building of the NLB and meeting with the administration of the Library.
On April 29, 2006, in the framework of the Republican subbotnik were carried out works on cleaning and accomplishment of the new building of the National Library of Belarus and bordering areas.
The NLB's staff cleaned and arranged their working places.
Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Sergej Sidorskij, Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Kosinec, and also representatives of municipal authority and soldiers of Belarusian army took part in works on accomplishment of bordering areas and park around the Library's building.
In the framework of the Republican subbotnik in the new building of the Library worked about 2,5 thousand people.
All funds earned during the Republican subbotnik will be assigned to social needs, public health and education.

Removal of the NLB's collections of manuscripts, rare books and incunabula into the new building has been accomplished.
In the Library's old building still remain some inner structural divisions. They will be removed into the new building as there will be prepared and launched an automated information system.
The solemn opening of the new building of the National Library of Belarus may take place in late May or in early June of the current year.

The National Library of Belarus will be one of leading information centers of Europe , said the Minister of culture of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Matvejchuk at the Congress on technologies of an information society "TIBO - 2006".

Removal of the main collections of the National Library of Belarus into the new building has been finished. In the old building of the Library still remains the collection of rare books.

In the National Museum of history and culture of Belarus, since March till September 2006, is open an exhibition "Modern Belarus. Periods of a cultural construction". The exhibition presents documents on historical and cultural heritage, museums and libraries of Belarus, folk arts and international cultural cooperation. The exhibition works every day, since 11.00 till 19.00, except Wednesday.

On March 03, 2005 a group of officers from Moscow Office in Minsk of the Embassy of Sweden visited the new building of the National Library. Among the visitors were: Head of Office Mr. Stephan Eriksson, Program Officer of culture, press and information Mr. Mårten Frankby and Senior Officer of the Department for Education and Research of Swedish Institute Mrs. Inga Lill Norlin.

On December 20, 2005 in the Museum of Modern Art was open an exhibition
exhibition "Art - Step On Christmas", organized by the National Library of Belarus and the International Guild of Painters.

Due to conservation of the National Library's collections, since December 1, 2005 the delivery of items from the book stock has been suspended.
You can use materials from supplementary collections of the following sections:
- reference (building ², floor 2, room 32);
- arts (building 1, floor 3, room 43);
- manuscripts, rare books and incunabula (building ², floor 1, room 113);
- Belarusian literature and bibliography (building ²², floor 3, room 304);
- 1st reading hall (building ², floor 2, room 202);
- 2d reading hall (building. ²², floor 4, room 404);
- 3d reading hall (building ², floor 3, room 34);
- record collection (except music and audio-documents) (building ², floor 3, room 40);
- newspaper reading hall (building ², floor 1, room 102).
The following sections work according to the usual schedule:
- Hall of documents of UNESCO and other international organizations (building. ²², floor 5, room 505);
- Exhibition of new acquisitions (building ²², floor 5, room 502).

Since November 17 till December 3, 2005, in the National Library's Center of documents of international organizations is open a subject book exhibition
"Little Palms full of Hopes", devoted to the Universal Children's Day. At the exhibition are presented more than 100 documents of international organizations (UN, UNESÑO, EU, Council of Europe etc.) in Russian, Belarusian and English: books, periodicals, mimeographed materials of UN (mastheads), brochures, booklets and posters.

On October 20, 2005 Maurice Freedman, past president of American Library Association, visited the National Library of Belarus. Maurice Freedman came to Minsk to take part in the International scientific and practical conference
"Role of libraries and information in sustainable development of the society", where he spoke on
"The Role of the library in sustainable development of the society: ecology of information - initiatives of American Library Association".
Since October 25 till October 27, 2005 in Minsk took place the International scientific and practical conference
"Role of libraries and information in sustainable development of society ". In the framework of the conference on October 26 in the National Library of Belarus
took place a focal seminar " National Library of Belarus as the Republican Information Center". During the seminar were presented

On October 21, 2005 in the National Library of Belarus was open a photo exhibition
"60 years of UNO: historical journey", devoted to the 60-th anniversary of the United Nations Organization.
Since October 17 till November 12 in the Center of documents of international organizations of the National Library of Belarus is open a subject book exhibition
"The United Nations Organization in the modern world", devoted to the 60-th anniversary of foundation of UNO.
In the reference sector (building ², room ¹ 32) of the National Library of Belarus is open
text access to full-text resources Blackwell and "POLPRED-reference books".

The issue of purchase of documents published abroad was successfully resolved. The libraries of Belarus were forbidden to acquire books, maps, atlases, music and other polygraph production, published in foreign countries at the expense of republic and local budget.

The Library's Sector of Arts presents to your attention a thematic exhibition

On 7 September 2005
Shantsev Valerij Pavlovitch, the governor of Nizhegorodskaja district of the Russian Federation, visited the National Library of Belarus. The high-ranking guest solemnly handed to the National Library a precious gift, the original copy of the book by Simeon Polotski "Rod of Governing" (Moskow, Pechatny dvor, 1667).
Since 2 September 2005 till 30 September 2005 in the music section of the National Library's department of arts takes place an exhibition
"In the world of children's music"

The Library keeps on serving its users. Since 1 September 2005 you can get from the Library's book depository the following documents:
- books coded with 1ÎÊ, 1Áà, Áà, including the same codes and the letter Ê;
- foreign books coded with 18Èí, numbered from 17837, including the same codes and the letter Ê;
- dissertations coded with 26Àä;
- theses coded with 2Àä, numbered from 100000;
- magazines edited after 1980, coded with 3ÎÊ, numbered from 1567;
- foreign periodicals (current acquirements);
- microforms.
Besides that, to your service are: supplementary book collections of all reading rooms and the Library's sections, exhibition of new acquirements, the center of legal information, the hall of documents of UNESCO and other international organizations.
Since 1 September 2005 the hall of documents of UNESCO and other international organizations works according to the Library's common schedule.
Since 1 September 2005 the Library works according to its common schedule. The Library works daily from 10.00 till 21.00; on Saturday from 10.00 till 18.00. On Sunday the Library doesn't work.
On August 24, 2005 at 16.00 in the National Library of Belarus took place ceremony of opening of the exhibition "Astana, the city of the 3-rd millenium". The exhibition is devoted to the 10-th anniversary of adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The National Library of Belarus has created and offers for sale CD-ROM "Belarusian calendar, 2006". The information contained herein is taken from the database "Belarus in persons and events" . The most eminent anniversary dates to which is devoted great number of publications, are supplemented with graphic, text and bibliographic information. In the information department (building ², room ¹ 32) of the National Library of Belarus is organized test access to:
- database Emerald, containing more than 33 000 full text articles from periodicals (since 1994), reviews and abstracts (since 1989) on management, library sciences and information management, computers and applied sciences (in English);
- electronic collections World Bank e-Library, containing more than 3400 full text books, reports, and other documents, published by the World Bank in English since the early 90-th of the ÕÕ-th century.
Database and electronic collections are available until August 31 2005

From June 4 until June 12 2005 in Sudak, the Autonomous Republic Crimea, Ukraine, took place the 12-th International conference"Crimea-2005" "Libraries and information resources in the modern world of science, culture, education and business". In the framework of the conference was celebrated the Day of the Libraries of Belarus. More in Russian

On May 30, 2005 in the National Library of Belarus took place official meeting with Dr. Johannes Schlootz, Professor of the department of political and social sciences of Freie Universit?t Berlin, and extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Germany in the Republic of Belarus Dr. Martin Hecker. During the official ceremony Dr. Schlootz handed the Vice Director of information resources Kuzminich Tatiana Vasilyevna the last volume from a long-term delivery (comprising 15 tons of books, newspapers and journals).

February 18 - March 4, 2005 the National Library of Belarus hosts exhibition
devoted to the famous Belarusian composer
Sergei Kortes. Numerous works will be presented, including books, music scores and photographs.
January 19 - February 11, 2005 the National Library of Belarus is
holding an exhibition devoted to the famous Russian portrait painter
Valentin Aleksandrovich Serov. Numerous book, journal articles about
the artist as well as reproductions of his works will be exhibited to
the public.
14.01-07.02.2005 National Library of Belarus hosts exhibition of the
paintings by Vladimir Prokoptsov and works by Pavel Prokoptsov.
