February 2, 2006, Minsk, the Republic of Belarus - The National Library of Belarus with the support of the company British American Tobacco published a photo album, devoted to book rarities from the collections of the main library of Belarus.
Collections of the National Library of Belarus keep about 70 thousand units of unique publications, archive documents, manuscripts and rare books. These rarities save history of different countries and peoples, a living heritage of Belarusian culture. This is a pearl of Belarusian book treasury.
Album "Rarities of the National Library of Belarus" includes the most brilliant examples of ancient manuscripts and printed books, as well unique rare books - works by classical authors of Belarusian and foreign literature, philosophers and historians, published in their lifetime.
"This album is not only an illustrated catalogue of the Library's unique collections. This is an independent art edition in which is reflected a unique spirit of an ancient book. It let us see and evaluate all the beauty of history of literature and book publishing in Belarus and other countries. For the first time, we have a good chance to present real treasures of the National Library with updated artistic and polygraph design. I hope, this album will be an example of high respect for cultural and historical values on a national scale," - said the director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulski.
Publication of the album was realized owing to the support, which the company British American Tobacco rendered to the project. Cooperation of British American Tobacco and the National Library of Belarus began in the year 2004 with a beneficent action, during which the company passed in the Library's collections 39 rare publications. The company British American Tobacco financed publication of the album "Rarities of the National Library of Belarus" and passed 2 800 copies of the album to the National Library. This is evidence of an active position of the company British American Tobacco in the field of support of cultural and artistic projects of social importance.
