According to the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus № 1102, October 05,2005 "On structure and terms of put into service of starting complexes of the construction project "The National Library of Belarus", decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee № 1, January 04, 2006 "On adaptation of the formal document on put into service of the construction project "The National Library of Belarus" (the second starting complex) and the order of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus № 6, January 06, 2006 "On formal acceptance of construction projects of the second starting complex "The National Library of Belarus", transportation of information resources and equipment, and development of the new building of the state institution "The National Library of Belarus", since January 10, 2006 begin transportation of the Library's collections and development of the new building of the National Library of Belarus situated at Nezavisimosti avenue, 116, Minsk.

    In every state the national library plays the most important role in the field of conservation of cultural heritage and national memory of a country, and favors the development of a state. The National Library of Belarus is today the biggest educational, information and cultural center, the main universal scientific library of the Republic of Belarus, the keeper of the national memory of Belarus. This is the library of the whole nation and for the whole nation. The National Library of Belarus is the biggest national depository, which possesses the richest collections of Belarusian and foreign printed editions, manuscripts and other documents on different kinds of media. The Library's collections total today more than 8 million documents, which are accessible to every citizen of Belarus.

    According to the plan, the first will be moved the reserve and exchange collection, which transportation has been realizing since January 01, 2006 till January 31, 2006.

    This collection is devoted to organizing of national and international exchange of documents. On this purpose, are being selected national and foreign documents, which the Library acquires from different sources, and in which are interested the partners of the Library. With the help of the reserve exchange collection, the National Library of Belarus redistributes collections of Belarusian libraries and supplies them with national and foreign documents, and as well realizes international document exchange.
