On September 14, 2007, in National Library of Belarus took place celebrations timed to the 85th anniversary of the
Library. Representatives of different ministries and State offices, international organizations,
guests from foreign countries, among them - Ilya Veljanov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of
Turkmenistan in the Republic of Belarus, and Igor Lihovoy, the Ambassador of Ukraine in the Republic of Belarus
participated in the event.
At the beginning of the event Alexander Kosiniets, the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus greeted workers of the NLB on
behalf of Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus. Vladimir Konopliov, the Chairman of the Chamber of
Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, government of the CIS, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of
Ukraine, Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography, representatives of Armenia, Great Britain, Poland, Russia,
Uzbekistan, France, and other countries sent congratulatory telegrams to participants of the event.
At the celebration Roman Motulsky, the Director of the NLB spoke on the history and development of the Library, and
paid honor to his predecessors. Roman Motulsky said words of gratitude to the government of Belarus, scientists,
architects, and builders who participated in the building of the modern information, cultural, social, and scientific
center of the Republic. Workers of the NLB received awards and letters of commendation on behalf of Council of
Ministers of the Republic of Belarus, Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Ministry of
Culture of the Republic of Belarus, National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian Trade Union
of Cultural Workers, and Belarusian Library Association.
As noted participants and guests of the event, the NLB which saves and promotes cultural heritage of Belarusian people
is the pride of our country. The Library represents not only information and intellectual resources of Belarus, but
also general social level of its development.
At the end of the celebrations took place a concert in which participated popular variety artists, opera soloists,
and choreography groups: dance group "Vesialushki", folk music group "Gramnitsy", accordionists group "Tutty"
(Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts), and group of soloists "Camerata" (Belarusian State Philharmonic
Society).
